Newborn length percentiles
Birth measurements are a starting point. This table is for day zero; early infancy changes quickly, so use the exact measurement date for later readings.
Length reference at 0 days
Values below are in cm. The columns are reference percentiles, not recommended limits. This table uses the day-of-birth reference.
| WHO reference | 3rd | 25th | 50th | 75th | 97th |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Girls | 45.64 | 47.89 | 49.15 | 50.40 | 52.65 |
| Boys | 46.32 | 48.61 | 49.88 | 51.16 | 53.44 |
How to use this table
Find the row for the sex used in your baby’s growth record, then compare the measurement in cm. Between two columns means between those reference percentiles. The calculator gives a more precise comparison using daily WHO parameters.
Measure length consistently
A length board and two trained people help make this measurement repeatable. Record the head-to-heel length while the baby is lying down. If you have only standing height, ask your clinician for an appropriate length measurement.
What this comparison cannot tell you
Small measurement differences can shift a percentile. Do not compare a standing height directly with the lying-down length reference used here. The number does not diagnose a condition or establish a growth goal.
Read the length percentile guide or browse other ages and measurements.
